In the early-to-mid 2000’s, the gurtons plant was the top-selling perennial perennial plant for many gardeners. I remember this plant selling for $16 a box in the 70’s. The current box price is about $60. I personally think the prices are about 20-25% higher due to the increased demand.
So, the gurtons plant is a great choice for the spring. It has a nice fragrance. And it’s a good choice as long as you are buying it during the dry season. I have planted my gurtons plant in the early 2000s in the shade of my shade-trees in the south. It’s a great plant for a shady yard. It can be planted in rows, but it is best planted in a larger container.
The problem is that the plant will not survive the winter. The plant is a hardy annual, and should be planted outdoors with the rest of your shade-trees. The plants will grow to about 2-3 feet tall and should not be transplanted in the spring unless you are buying new plants.
Well, that’s not good for gurtons, but it’s not the end of the world. You can plant your gurtons outside of the cold, dark, and harsh southern winters anyway. In fact, I have a nice little greenhouse that I put gurtons in. They are a very popular variety of plant, and very high in nutrition, so they are very good for your garden when they are getting cold and need a little extra nourishment.
This is a fun little project. I hope to have your gurtons grown so that you can have a lot more of them in your garden. The project is also a bit silly, as I’m sure you all know.
